How Quickly Does Google Alerts Pickup a New Web Page
This blog is an experiment to find out how quickly Google Alerts picks up new webpages. In this example, I have set an alert for the term:
John F. Kennedy Campaign Button for Sale
My client, Alex Cooper Auctioneers, is selling a John F. Kennedy Campaign button in their upcoming auction on February 7th, 2023. The auction went online on 1/24/2023 at the latest. When I create a Google Alert for "John F. Kennedy Campaign Button", their auction item does not appear. When I create an alert for " "John F. Kennedy Button" for sale " (double quotes on purpose), their auction item appears in the results, but not prominently. When I create an alert for " "John F. Kennedy Campaign Button" auction" it appears prominently.
Normally auctions take place every six weeks and have about 2 weeks of ad time before the auction ends. I'd like to know how strong a roll Google Alerts might play in people discovering an item for sale.
I'd like to do a second comparison for this term:
Tory Burch Quilted Flap Backpack
There is also a Tory Burch Quilted Flap Backpack in the Feb 7th sale, and I'd like to see if I get an alert for that immediately.
Results Below
Published at 7:24 AM EST in Israel. Settings on Google Alerts are as follows:
Update:
11:56 AM Israel Time 7 Feb 2023
Still no alerts. Added a new alert with settings for "all results" and without the "for sale" modifier.
